India's first ever Resort Wear Week ended with much aplomb, grandeur and laidback celebration at the gorgeous Marbela Beach Resort on the outskirts of Goa. Just like Goa is considered more to be a state of mind than a state in India, the feeling extended to the clothes on display as well. Resort wear too, just like Goa, is considered as being more a state of mind, an emotional/spiritual concept that translates into outwear, than mere clothes and accessories.

It's everything one wants on holiday - indulgence, temptation, comfort and luxury. The clothes pretty much followed the feel of a five star vacation. Languid silhouettes, sequined glamour, super soft feathers and fur, flirtatious tassels and strings and sensuous sheer fabrics.

So if you're planning a year-end beach holiday, we pick out the top ten resort wear trends of 2012 that will help you make a stylish escape.

Glamour & glitter:
Bling is no longer reserved for just the runway; sequin bikinis or a pair of shimmery harem pants shine out on a beach loaded with boring neons or polka dots. Designers like Manish Malhotra and duo Shivan & Naresh prompt one to take the glamorous route rather than spandex. Sparkling wraps and glimmering tops work equally well for both day and night. While a sequins gown might be over the top there’s nothing to beat sweet little nothings in bling and crystal, as you go from high school styles to mature and grown up Hollywood glamour. These not meant to get wet styles make sure all eyes are on you.

Easy breezy:
There's nothing more comfortable than breathable cottons, flowing styles and lounge wear whether you cruise around Monaco or Phuket. The organic stuff not only looks great but it also makes one feel great. Feminine dresses, wrap pajamas, sarongs, pastel hued tunics and skirts in linen and cotton, ensure that one both looks and feels elegant and sophisticated.

Pristine whites:
White is the most water friendly tone. It looks sensuous as well as classic at once. Wearing all white playsuits, jumpsuits and pants and tank tops work really well while lounging on a beach. They also work, with bright tie and dye contrast and neon accessorising. Sipping on your martinis, whites make you look serene, pristine and sophisticated even on holiday.

Tribal Tricks:
One of the most prominent beach trends of all times is beaded hair. While, it might look too 80s now, there is no reason why you can't incorporate beads in other crazy ways. Wear colourful beaded necklaces and headbands as accessories or clothes and sarongs with colourful bead detailing. Also, when it comes to jewellry, stick to ethnic traditional earrings and bangles.

Sari over a sarong:
One wouldn't think of packing a sari for a beach holiday. Our designers, however, beg to differ. Many designers showed resort versions of the nine yards perfect to be worn next to the ocean. The trick is to keep away from over-embellished and embroidered options. Stick to double-toned, flowy fabrics for the desired effect. Team them up with fun, playful, sexy blouses and minimal accessories. Wear your sari low and complete the look with flats.

Neon chic:
The best thing about holidays is holiday photographs that keep the experience fresh and alive long after your return flight home. What makes photographs work even better? Brighter, fluorescent shades! Slap on the neon when basking in the beach sun, sipping on pinacoladas. When not wearing neon coloured bikinis, you can also wear sheer tops and pants in vibrant hues. Neon accessories work just as well.

Kaftan cover-ups:
You can't be chilling on a luxurious coast without an equally luxurious kaftan on. Perfect cover-ups for holiday weight, flowy sheer kaftans add more to your swimwear than just hiding your flab. Minimalism does not work when thinking kaftans. Think of the brightest, sexiest and most glamourous options with sequins and metallic detailing. Choose from unusual colours like aqua and fruity tones. You can also pick from a variety of fabrics, though chiffons work best.

Colour blocking:
Colour blocking is one trend that has permeated through wardrobes of all seasons and flavours. Bright contrasting colours played up against one another, render a bold, playful effect that is multiplied on vacation. Wear sarongs, cover-ups and draped dresses with colour blocking on a fuss-free day. You won't have to bother much with hair, makeup and accessorising as colour-blocking has the shock and awe aspect going for it. Just tie your hair back in a ponytail, put on some nude flats or wedges and your funkiest pair of sunglasses for the desired effect.
