The Korean wave has made its ways all over the globe. South Korea has undeniably created a global phenomenon in various field _ be it movies, music, food or fashion. For fashion, Korea is making a stronger statement on the world scene with many talented designers whose collections are catching the eyes of international fashion gurus. The recent, six-day Seoul Fashion Week S/S 2012, organised at Seoul Trade Exhibition & Convention (SETEC), is another successful proven record as it attracted over 15,000 visitors a day with a total of 127 brands participated in the shows and the fashion and beauty fair.
About 200 buyers and 100 press members from countries including the US, France, Italy and Britain attended the show, reflecting the growing interest in South Korea's fashion industry. Representatives from Siam Center, Bangkok's leading fashion shopping centre, also participated in this event.

The Seoul Fashion Week S/S 2012 has Korea's top designers paraded bold and innovative pieces. Among them are such famous names as Lie Sang Bong, the founding father of modern Korean fashion; Juyoung Lee, a leader in men's fashion; and young designer Jaehwan Lee, famous for his edgy-yet-feminine appeal.
Lie Sang Bong presented his collection on the "Over the Rainbow" theme, which took cues from traditional Korean architecture featuring bold hues, dazzling screen prints, and fabrics with plenty of movement. Working since 1985, Lie was Seoul's Designer of the Year in 1999. He has his collections presented on runways of London and Paris fashion weeks.
Returning home from New York fashion week, Juyoung Lee showcased his menswear line, "Resurrection", in Seoul. Resurrection S/S 2012 is about contrasts _ soft flowing materials contrasting with structured masculine silhouettes. The collection juxtaposes classic, tailored menswear pieces, including blazers and vests, with more fluid, darker elements. Juyoung was a graduate of both Yewon Arts University in South Korea and Parsons in New York. A fairly new designer, Jaehwan Lee presented his impressive collection under the theme, "Flying Lesson 66", a fusion of bold, architectural elements and feminity which explored the women's desire to fly by illustrated it in a futuristic way with the use of silver as the main colour and light materials like silk organza.
Jaehwan Lee made his fashion debut when he was awarded the grand prize at the Festival International des Jeunes Createurs de Mode de Dinard in France in 2007. A couple of months ago, he was selected as one of the 10 "Seoul's 10 Soul" designers for the Paris fashion week. Seoul's 10 Soul is a global project, which selects designers who are right for each city and launches them into the world.
For Bangkok fashionistas who wish to transform yourself into a stylish Korean look, a leading Korean label, Basic House, has recently opened its flagship store on the first floor of Paradise Park shopping complex on Srinakarin Road. The spacious store's front and wall paper showcases a unique graphic design in vivid colours by famous American artist Keith Haring who wants to make the arts easily accessible for the public and has spent most of his life painting in public areas for charitable causes.
Basic House's collection, based on the "True Basic You Need" concept, offers a line of casualwear that can be easily mixed and matched to fit in with today's modern lifestyle of young fashionistas. Presenters for the Autumn 2011 collection, now available in Bangkok, are Korean superstars _ Won Bin and Moon Geun Yong, from the hot series, Autumn in My Heart.
For Autumn 2011, the collection emphasises on easy and stylish shirts in different colours for both men and women, with chic jacket a must-have item this season. Bright-coloured T-shirt inspired by the work of Keith Haring is also available in limited edition.
